The full moon is the apex of the energy that has been building for the past 14 days. Like the new moon, it’s generally accepted that the full moon phase lasts 3 days (despite the fact that the exact full moon period lasts for a fraction of the time). As the moon appears to be full for 3 days when viewed from Earth, it has been interpreted that the lasting energetic properties of the moon are contained within that time frame. There’s no right or wrong way how to approach this. I follow this line of thought because I feel like the energetic effect of the full and new moons can still be felt around the 3 day time span.
The full moon is considered a time of completion and celebration. In paganism, this is thought of as the time to “harvest” our energetic “crops”, as well as enjoy the rewards of the “seeds” we planted at the new moon. During this time it’s important to be receptive and bask in the magic you have manifested. Full moons are ideal times for celebrating with friends, socializing and nighttime activities that allow you to be enchanted by the celestial rays of the full moon.
During the time of the Pink Moon, flowers are beginning to bloom signaling the richness of spring. In fact, April’s full moon is named after the pink flower blossoms that sprout during this time in some parts of the world. The moon doesn’t appear pink per se, it’s in reference to the blossoming world. The energy of the Pink Moon is based around harnessing both our external and internal beauty, then reflecting it for all to see just as flowers show off their stuff this time of year.
The Full Pink Moon occurs Saturday, April 12th. This April’s Full Pink Moon in Libra is the smallest full moon of the year, which is known as a “micromoon”. This month’s full moon happens when the moon is furthest from Earth in its orbit, which is known as “apogee”. This results in the moon appearing dimmer and smaller than it usually is. However, when viewed by the naked eye it is hard to notice the difference.
As this Pink Moon rises in Libra – the sign of justice, relationships and balance – we are encouraged to search for emotional balance and to care for our relationships, whether they be platonic, romantic, work, or spiritual ones in order to support our growth.
This Full Moon in Libra is exactly opposing Chiron in Aries. Wounded healer Chiron, represents our core wounds, but also our path towards healing. When Chiron is in Aries, we particularly feel the heaviness of wounds related to the right to exist. For those of us from marginalized identities, this wound can run super deep. For many of us, justifying our right to mere existence has been a fight we’ve been battling since a very young age, so it’s not a surprise that this theme may rear its head around this time. Taking time to reaffirm our right to assert ourselves and search out more conscious and constructive ways of expressing our anger will prove to be helpful.
In order to understand harmony, we must experience disharmony. While it isn’t fun or easy navigating around conflict and confrontation, it leads to a deeper understanding of why peace is important. April’s Full Pink Moon in Aries reflects how we may have overcompensated, losing our connection with our truth to gain a false sense of peace. Now is a good time to consider where we could reset our alignment with ourselves and our relationships.
The Pink Moon rises in the heart of spring, shining down on a world in bloom. Named not for its color but for the early-blossoming wild phlox, this full moon invites us to open our hearts, plant seeds of joy, and tend the gardens of our souls.
The Pink Moon frequently comes in the time period between the Spring Equinox (Ostara) and Beltane. Spring Equinox focuses on emergence, while Beltane’s main themes are union, passion and fertility. This full moon encourages softness. It is related to emotional clarity, blooming, and awakening. It encourages us to let go of what no longer serves us in order to blossom into our authentic self. For those who work with deities, goddesses such as Venus, Aphrodite, Rhiannon or Freyja are all aligned with this Pink Moon in Libra.
As Libra is ruled by Venus, this combo pairs perfectly with the loving vibes of the Pink Moon. Rituals centered around themes of beauty, truth, connection as well as bringing enchantment to your love life are all supported during this lunation. This is an ideal time to charge stones and talismans, as well as clean your altar space.
Under the Full Pink Moon in Libra, we are called to reflect on balance, nurturing relationships. Here’s tarot spread to pull during this lunation.
1 Where am I out of balance?
2 Which relationships need nurturing – or boundaries?
3 What does inner harmony feel like in my body and spirit?
4 What old layers need to be shed?
5 How can I nurture new beginnings?
6 Where should I focus my energy for growth?
Celestial Blessings!
